Best Practices: Posting Non State Specific (nationwide) Job

Best practices to advertise nationwide.

ExactHire offers the following best practices to advertise, while keeping within the ExactHire ATS framework as well as conforming to the standards of the Job Boards, that a job is accepting applicants “nationwide”, or that the organization is willing to relocate a new employee.

A specific location (city, state, and zip code) is required by the job boards (free or paid) to help job seekers find openings close to their home or desired work location. Most job boards will allow job seekers to filter based on "# miles from my home" or similar. The location becomes critical to that process and is therefore required when creating a job.

The following suggestions may help increase applicant flow for these types of jobs. Depending on the market and job, it may take some testing to determine what gives the best results for the company.

Suggestion #1 - Advertise the job using the location of the company headquarters - city, state, and zip code. Using the description field to include information about relocation or nationwide opportunities. Also, adding keywords to the title of the job will help. Example: Sales Manager – Nationwide Search – Relocation Available.

Suggestion #2 - Advertise in the 4 to 5 largest cities/states of the company’s top markets. Include the city and state in the job title. Example: Regional Sales Manager – Cincinnati OH. Then, as described above, include information about relocation or nationwide opportunities in the description field.
