How to Exclude Certain Jobs From Posting to Indeed

There may be times when some of your job listings are not ideal for an automatic push to Indeed.

Many applicant tracking system clients elect to have all of the jobs that are posted to their ATS portals automatically pushed to Indeed’s external job board. Especially due to features such as Indeed Apply, this external board can have a significant impact on the number of job seekers who see your opportunities and apply within your portal. However, there may be times when some of your job listings are not ideal for an automatic push to Indeed. One example would be if your organization uses a “General Application” job listing to pool candidates for future jobs that aren’t actually available yet.

Fortunately, the ATS is coded to allow you to exclude some of your job postings from the Indeed job board push based on the wording of your job titles. Our ATS uses a regular expression that searches for specific words in specific positions within the text string that makes up your job title.

Here’s How It Works
In order for any of your jobs to be EXCLUDED from Indeed’s search results (assuming your portal is set to push jobs to Indeed automatically), then you must use one of the following words in the first part of your title:

open, future, general, submit

...AND, you must use one of the following words in the second part of your job title. KEY CONCEPT: The word in the first group needs to come before the word in the second group.

Here are some examples of job titles that would be excluded from Indeed based on the above formula:

Open Position

Open for any Position

Future Openings - upload an application

Production - Future Openings

Structural Engineer - apply for future openings

Paralegal Future Opening 2015: North Central & South East regions

General Application

General Application for Internship - Summer 2016

General Openings - Any location

General Employment
