Indeed Apply Application Settings

The ATS can help you convert more candidates into job applicants via the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply feature for job seekers that access the Indeed job board on their mobile devices and/or their desktop computer using their Indeed Profile account.

These features will require fewer clicks from applicants originating on Indeed and therefore enable them to start their application (and in some cases complete it) directly on Indeed rather than coming to your individual ATS career site.

The topics discussed in this tip sheet are:

  • Enabling the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply feature for my applications.
  • Accepting the Indeed Profile as a completed application.
  • Indeed Apply Applicant Flowchart

Enabling the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply feature for my applications.
This features allow you to select to enable or disable the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply feature for your individual applications. Enabling the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply feature for an application means that you have given permission for Indeed to allow applicants to use the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply/Apply with Indeed Resume feature for any job postings associated with that application, also allowing applicants to submit their Indeed Profile to start (and in some cases complete) their application. Disabling this feature means you would like your job postings on Indeed to redirect the applicant to your ATS to complete the application process on your ATS career site rather than submitting their Indeed Profile. By default your applications are set to enable to Indeed Apply/Easily Apply feature. To request a change please contact ExactHire Client Success at support@exacthire.com.

Accepting the Indeed Profile as a completed application.
There are two options available to you in accepting an Indeed Profile information in your application process.

CHOICE 1 (Default): Prompt all applicants for more information before screening their application in the ATS. Applicants will apply using their Indeed Profile. Upon submitting their profile information they will immediately receive an email from your ATS prompting them to complete additional information in ATS career site application in order for their submission to truly be complete and considered for the job. Until the applicant takes action and returns to the ATS to complete the application, their application will be marked incomplete in the ATS and therefore will be visible to you on the Incomplete Applications Report found on the Reports Dashboard. Applicants on the Incomplete Application Report will continue to receive reminder to complete notifications based on the Incomplete Application Reminder settings you have selected. You will also see an Indeed Apply Incomplete count on the Applicants Dashboard to help you track how many incomplete applicants are coming from the Indeed Apply process.

Note about CHOICE 1: When applicants apply to your job listing on Indeed using the Indeed Apply/Easily Apply/Apply with Indeed Resume feature they will immediately receive an email message from Indeed indicating that they have successfully applied to your position using Indeed. This is something that Indeed controls and that is not unique to the ATS. Immediately following the email from Indeed, your ATS will automatically send an email to the applicant indicating that further information is required in order for HR to review the application. Here's an example of that email from the ATS:

Please note that some applicants will not take the time to log in on the ATS career site to complete the remainder of the application in this option because it is an extra step. However, you may counteract this effect and further boost the number of completed applications by having ExactHire enable automatic incomplete application reminders in your site. To request a change please contact ExactHire Client Success at support@exacthire.com.

CHOICE 2: Applicants will apply using their Indeed profiles and their application will be marked as complete in the ATS and therefore be immediately visible to you on the Applicants Dashboard. Applications received in this manner will have an applicant declared source of Indeed - apply.

Note about CHOICE 2: The Indeed Apply/Easily Apply/Apply with Indeed Resume applicant record will include answers to Job Questions (if included on the job listing), Resume, Source and also Race, Gender, Veterans and Disability information, if volunteered by applicants and based on your ATS application settings. Other information will populate in the Employment History, Education, and References areas if the applicant has included that information in their Indeed Profile, otherwise those sections will remain blank.

CHOICE 1 is right for you if...

  • You are using a long one-step application.
  • You are using a two-step application that has any of the following sections as part of the first step: employment, education, references, or additional questions.
  • You are utilizing an assessment integration in which applicants are invited to complete an assessment on the Thank You page after completing an application.
    • NOTE: You may still set Indeed applicants to complete IF you utilize a two-step application (with first-step sections described below) and/or if you prefer to manually invite applicants to take the assessment via email further into the screening process.

CHOICE 2 is right for you if...

  • You are using a two-step application where the first step consists of only some or all of the following sections: job questions, resume, source, and EEOC (VEVRAA and Section 503).
    • You may use the second step of the two-step application to capture remaining information (such as complete Education, Employment, References, and Additional Questions sections) from applicants later in the screening process.
  • You want to noticeably increase the number of applicants you are converting. Indeed's research has shown a dramatic (sometimes as much as 10%) increase in the number of applicants converted when Indeed Apply is available...and this increase has NOT been shown to be the result of cannibalizing the traffic to other ad sources.
  • You are comfortable with applicants receiving an email from Indeed confirming that their application has been successfully submitted via Indeed Apply. It is then up to you to reach out to applicants that you would like to move forward in the screening process, whether that be a phone screen or an invitation to complete the second step of a two-step application.
  • When viewing the Incomplete Applications Report in the Standard Reports tab of your Reports dashboard, you see that many of the incomplete applications have Indeed Mobile as the source.

What does ExactHire recommend?
We strongly encourage clients who are using two-step applications with only job questions, resume, source, and/or EEOC sections to consider CHOICE 2 in order to boost the number of applications received. More complete information can be obtained from the applicant on the second step of the two-step application further into the screening process.
